Years in Comedy: I haven’t been in comedy long, but comedy has always been inside of me.

Favorite City to Perform In: Cities that book me! But, obviously, I love Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Detroit.
Favorite Topics to Joke About: My Pops, being a mum, basically, experiences and human behavior.
Favorite Type of Audience for a Comedy Show: An Audience full of people who came to laugh, who may have had a few drinks or puffs, parents, who got a babysitter for the night, women who bring their besties and boyfriends to my shows. I like people who know laughter is the BEST medicine, especially when you don’t have insurance.
Favorite Comedy Club: Clubs that book me!

How did you discover your passion for comedy:
When I was in High School, I ran for the Rally Commissioner. I had seen the previous R.C. bring so much laughter and joy to our rallies/school, involving hella people on campus. When I won the race and was elected, I wanted to shine. I worked on skits, and jokes, and more! It was there the seed was planted. That seed was watered by shows like Living Single, All That, Girlfriends, Comic View and so many more.

Eventually, life, the recession, graduation, and unfilling jobs showed me that our creator is a comic too! Life is funny when you laugh. So, after I had my daughter and became a baby vending machine, as well as a mobile double milk Slurpee, I knew my path. Blah, blah, blah, and here I am now.

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
It was packed with people I knew and people I’d never seen in my life. I had to go to the bathroom twice! I wore plaid and said, “ Happy early Father’s Day and Happy Daddy Day to a few of you who don’t know yet! Yeah, that condom broke…you are a Daddy now.”

How would you describe your comedic style:
I’m physical on stage and will jump into a character in a minute. I tend to perform anecdotal, satirical, and situational topics. Examining everyday life, with a twist of M.I.L.F, Melanin, and Magic!

Describe your process for comedic writing:
I carry a tiny notepad everywhere. I will either write down thoughts or observations or situations or type them. Then I come back later and work them out. Then, I put them in a set to work them out on stage. Then come back and rework them. Finally, I try to type them for future reference, etc.

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
It’s Poppin! It’s dense with comics and expansive.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
Success for me is when you have the freedom to enjoy what you love daily while being your authentic self. And, when you get paid or generate income from those passions, as well as, you like/enjoy your village of support, then that’s a success; not only in comedy but in life.

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
Dang, there are so many @SarahFatemicomedy @CabWashington @MelvinKakooza @keepitroniraw @Stephanietejadaa @Christine_fekete @amwrrn @Karinareyl @jkeenancomedy @Laurenhowardhayes

What’s been your most memorable moment in comedy:
Performing in The Belly Room at The Comedy Store, in front of my Pops, sis, and close family friends from Detroit. It was so lit!

What have you learned most from your failures in comedy:
Failures, mistakes, missteps, and bombing, etc. are the best ways to learn in comedy and in life. Johnny Cash said it best, “ You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on them. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.”

How do people react towards you when they realize that you can make people laugh:
They laugh then follow me @BoughettoAsh (Laughs). Naw, they used to laugh then hug me. Now, that was before the pandemic…now it’s an air hug.

Describe what it’s been like building a career in stand-up comedy:
It’s more complex than giving birth to a baby girl, in the morning after having contractions all night, not sleeping, having a doctor stick their whole hand in your vaganial canal to check your cervix, after receiving an epidural from a cartoon-like needle and have only eaten ice chips while people consume Taco Bell in front of you in a tiny pale blue room. And, after childbirth, there is a sense of relief but you gotta get stitches on your perineum, breastfeed and still work. It’s a bit like that but more fun!

If you could change one thing in the world of comedy, what would it be:
I would ensure top-notch, FREE child-care for momedians and comics who are parents. And, I would provide comics with flight buddies passes so we can fly to gigs EVERYWHERE for FREE!

Best advice you’ve ever received from a comedian:
Hmmm! He didn’t tell me personally but I read that Joe Rogan said,
“No advice. Just fucking do it. Just get on stage and find who you are. And how can someone else tell you that.”

If you were releasing a comedy special this week, what would it be called:
I Like Sugar in Grits: A Melanated Boughetto Moms Pilgrimage to Sanity & Selfies, While Estranged yet Hydrated.

Funniest encounter you’ve ever had with a celebrity:
I was at a friend’s wedding and I started dancing 90s hits on the dance floor with whom I thought was a cousin but really was James Corden. When I tell you I was all up in his grill and we danced for the gawds hunty! Didn’t realize until days later, when my friends told me and I realized I had way too much fun with the Car Karaoke King himself!

Weirdest place you’ve ever performed any form of comedy:
Online shows during the pandemic were pretty weird at first but then I learned to find the artistry in them, while connected with new faces and I was able to perform in South Africa virtually a few times!

An Ashleigh Rosé Fun Fact:
I’m lactose intolerant (my parents still don’t understand what that means LOL) and my inner voice was British as a child.

Where would you like your laughs to take you:
I hope they take me to outer-space, first-class, of course, and back to earth.

What would you tell a potential comedian if they ask you how they can own the laughs:
Be yourself. Grow. Expand. Learn. Love. And, be your authentic self.

What are your thoughts on the future of comedy:
Comedy is pregnant and growing every day. I think in the future it will birth something really special that lasts a lifetime.

If you could write one episode for one classic TV sitcom which show would it be and give a brief detailed sentence on the episode:
It would be for The Wayans Brothers. The episode would be called “Marlon Throws a Dinner Party,” and Marlon wants to impress a woman, actor Garcelle Beauvis who plays Dawn who is a temp for Dierdre while she is home with a hurt back. Marlon attempts to use Pops Diner without his permission and throws an elaborate dinner party at the diner without inviting anyone who knows well. Pops had to return to the diner at 11 pm to retrieve his watch and thankfully he came back when he did because Marlon had begged Sean to help him cook and the kitchen was catching fire. Pops come to save the day and whip up some grub.

If you could choose 1 comedy club and 3 comedians to perform with on your perfect comedy show, how would it go:
Three comedians go up before me and kill it! I headline and murder it with a sold-out show.

What’s next for you:
I’m getting ready for some shows, working on my merch, and re-launching www.ashleigh.world. Hopefully, I’ll book a guest role, some voice-over work, a commercial, a movie…skies the limit! At the moment I’m creating a lot so Imma keep on, keeping on.

Why should a person always laugh at life:
Because it feels good and you deserve to feel good! I said what I said.
