There’s a funny side to being the last of a dying breed.

Netflix has ordered a new half-hour comedy series entitled Blockbuster starring Marvel’s Ant-Man & The Wasp Randall Park. Blockbuster will follow an ensemble cast of video store workers who are struggling to keep a dying business alive. Park is expected to play Timmy, a likable and funny guy who is a dreamer and likes movies.

The 10-episode half-hour series will be written by Vanessa Ramos who will also serve as showrunner and as an executive producer. Ramos is known for her work on such comedy series as SuperstoreBrooklyn Nine-Nine, Crashing, and more. No directors are attached to the project at the moment.

Netflix’s Blockbuster is developed by Davis Entertainment production company, whose TV credits include The Blacklist, Magnum P.I., The Equalizer and more.

A documentary by the name of The Last Blockbuster is currently streaming on Netflix in some regions.

Once bitter rivals in the streaming service wars, Netflix and Blockbuster were almost business partners at one point in time. In 2000, Reed Hastings approached former Blockbuster CEO John Antioco and asked for $50 million to give away the company he founded — Netflix. Antioco, thinking that it was a “very small niche business,” ended the negotiations and didn’t buy Netflix, which at the time was a DVD mailing service.

21 years later, Netflix is currently valued at over $25 billion with over 214 million subscribers worldwide. Netflix can be accessed via the internet browser on computers, or via application software installed on smart TVs, set-top boxes connected to televisions, tablet computers, smartphones, digital media players, Blu-ray Disc players, video game consoles, and virtual reality headsets on the list of Netflix-compatible devices.
