How did you discover your passion for comedy:
My whole life has revolved around how I can make people laugh. When I was little, I was weird-looking and a little chunky, so my main thing was always to be funny. Getting a laugh is like a drug to me.

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
It went way better than I thought it would. I also remember feeling almost immediately addicted to it.

How would you describe your comedic style:
A mix of self-obsession/narcissism and self-loathing/depression. A tradition like no other.

Describe your process for comedic writing:
I live my life every day as normal, and as I think of things, I write them down in my notes on my phone. Then I try those thoughts on stage and sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
Comedy in NYC is really fun. There’s a lot of late nights and commiserating about how tired you are, so you get really close with people.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
For me, if I am getting booked consistently and doing well on those shows, I feel really good. If I’m making friends with people who I admire and who push me to be better, I feel good.

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
There are some REALLY funny comics in NYC right now that I admire so much. I love watching Rosebud Baker just completely own a room.

What’s been your most memorable moment in comedy:
Headlining at Caroline’s on Broadway in January 2020 was my most memorable moment. It was fully packed out, filled with my friends, family, coworkers, fans, followers, enemies, etc.

What have you learned most from your failures in comedy:
Failure is inevitable. You’re going to fail at times no matter what, especially in comedy where you’re getting up in front of people and sharing your most vulnerable thoughts. In the end it makes you better.

How do people react towards you when they realize that you can make people laugh:
I think doing standup comedy is a secret dream a lot of people have, so they admire that someone has the guts (and is mentally ill enough) to put themselves in that situation repeatedly. People ask a lot of questions.

Describe what it’s been like building a career in stand-up comedy:
It’s full of ups and downs. One day I’m like “wow this is going to be my big break” and the next day I’m like “have I ever said anything funny in my entire life?”

If you could change one thing in the world of comedy, what would it be:
I wish there was a more concrete way to work your way up. As it is now, there’s no specific way to make a successful career, you just have to work hard and hope the right person notices.

Best advice you’ve ever received from a comedian:
You’re going to bomb. The best comedians in the world bomb. Don’t let it stop you. It would be psychotic if you DIDN’T bomb.

If you were releasing a comedy special this week, what would it be called:
My Parents’ Couch: Anything Can Be a Stage

Funniest encounter you’ve ever had with a celebrity:
I got fired by a celeb once…

Weirdest place you’ve ever performed any form of comedy:
On any form of Zoom or IG Live show (2020 was rough as f*ck). You’re like “can anyone hear me? Does anyone give a shit? Should I just leave?”

A Luisa Lange Fun Fact:
I have the word “QUESO” tattooed in my mouth because I love the Mexican cheese dip and want it in my mouth always.

Where would you like your laughs to take you:
I’d love to write my own comedy show or feature film. I also want to tour my standup.

What would you tell a potential comedian if they ask you how they can own the laughs:
Just get on stage and do it. The only way to start is to start. If you think your own jokes are funny, it’s almost guaranteed that someone else out there will too.

What are your thoughts on the future of comedy:
The comedy will never go out of style. As long as the world doesn’t explode (which honestly, it might), people will need comedy. I personally am excited to be a part of the future of comedy.

If you could write one episode for one classic TV sitcom which show would it be and give a brief detailed sentence on the episode:
Broad City – Ilana gets Hatfished by a guy (when someone looks hot in a hat and then they take it off and are not hot).

If you could choose 1 comedy club and 3 comedians to perform with on your perfect comedy show, how would it go:
The Stand: Nikki Glaser, Nate Bargatze, Nick Kroll.

What’s next for you:
Broadway! Just kidding. Probably just lots more standup in NYC and hopefully other cities in the near future.

Why should a person always laugh at life:
The only other option is to cry…
