John Mulaney is officially returning to the stage. On Tuesday the beloved stand-up, Saturday Night Live alum, and star of Netflix’s Big Mouth and John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch announced a five-day residency at New York’s City Winery from May 10 through May 14, marking his first foray into live comedy since a stay in rehab late last year.
In November of 2020, Mulaney briefly joined the writing staff of his former Saturday Night Live colleague and friend Seth Meyers’s television show, Late Night With Seth Meyers. Shortly afterwards, Mulaney admitted himself to a Pennsylvania rehab facility to seek treatment “after relapsing following a decades-long battle with addiction.
Mulaney had been candid about his addiction to alcohol and cocaine in the past.
By February, Mulaney had completed a 60-day stint in rehab and transitioned to outpatient sober care. “He is doing well, although he is still not ready to return to work,” a source told Page Six.
Now it seems Mulaney is ready to return to what he does best: making people laugh. To attend his shows, guests must “either be fully vaccinated or have received a negative COVID test prior to the event,” according to the official event listing. No phones will be allowed in the performance space either. Unsurprisingly, every show has already sold out—but fans who would like an opportunity to see the Oh, Hello funnyman back in action can still add their names to a wait list.
