Award-winning actress Helen Mirren will narrate a new unscripted comedy series, When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren (formerly under the working title When Nature Calls), premiering this month on ABC and Hulu.
The nature-themed comedy is based on a BBC Studios format that features comedians providing dialogue for animals in nature footage from around the world. The new series is set to premiere June 24 on ABC, with episodes available on demand the following day on Hulu.
“Helen Mirren is without a doubt one of the greatest talents of our time, and we consider it a privilege to bring her iconic voice to this series,” said Valerie Bruce, general manager of L.A. productions for BBC Studios in a release. “She is the perfect storyteller to take us on this journey as we reimagine the animal kingdom with a comic twist and bring to life the more humorous side of creatures great and small.”
Added Rob Mills, executive vice president of unscripted & alternative for Walt Disney Television: “When you’ve won an Oscar, an Emmy and a Tony, the only way to further add to your legacy is to narrate When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren.”
When Nature Calls with Helen Mirren is produced for ABC by BBC Studios’ Los Angeles production arm with Ryan O’Dowd serving as executive producer for BBC Studios and K.P. Anderson executive producing and showrunning.
