On and off since 2013, Mike Epps has been linked to playing Richard Pryor in a film biopic. At a certain point, Lee Daniels was to direct the film, but nothing ever came from that. And while a biopic is still yet to come to fruition (Kenya Barris is working on a new script currently without Epps presently attached to play the titular role), Epps is finally getting the chance to play the legendary comic.
Today it was announced that Epps will be playing Pryor in an untitled upcoming series for HBO that chronicles the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s. What exactly the tie in is between Pryor and the Lakers remains unclear at this time, but it definitely has us excited to see what comes of it.
The series, which is directed by Adam McKay, boasts an all-star cast that includes Jason Segal, Adrien Brody, Sally Field, Michael Chiklis, John C. Reilly, Jason Clarke, Quincy Isaiah, Solomon Hughes, Gaby Hoffmann, Hadley Robinson, DeVaughn Nixon, Molly Gordon, Rob Morgan, Spencer Garrett, Kirk Bovill, Delante Desouza, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Tamera Tomakili, and Joey Brooks.
