Family, friends, and fellow comedians have come together to help raise money for an east coast fan favorite as she prepares herself for the fight of her life. New York comedian Shari Diaz was recently diagnosed with cancer and ankylosing spondylitis.
A comedic star on the rise from the Boogie Down Bronx, Shari has spent the last six years making a name for herself on the underground comedy scene. She has set stages for Joey Medina, Gina Brillon, Pauly Shore, Michael Yo, Carlos Mencia, Mark Viera, Godfrey, Tony Woods, Shawn Wayans, and Maria Bamford. In April, she taped her first comedy special as HBO Max’s Latin comedy series Entre Nos. Diaz is also the creator & co-host of the Tres Betches Podcast with Trina Alper & Jessica Clayton.
Once Shari’s challenging news reached friends and close relatives, Kate Robards created a fundraiser opportunity with GoFundMe on her behalf. The account currently stands at $24,158.99, with notable donations from current comedy stars Lucas Bros, Laurie Kilmartin, Jeremy Alder, and others who remain anonymous. Setting their sights on the goal of thirty thousand dollars, proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards Diaz’s medical bills and living expenses during cancer treatment.
Donations for Shari Diaz are still being accepted at GoFundMe.
