Celebrating the life of a great friend and a young legend in the world of comedy, comedian Lewis Belt teamed up with digital entertainment platform All Def Digital for a special event to honor the late comedian Teddy Ray.

Belt hosted a Young OGs of Comedy tribute event, held inside the world-famous HaHa Comedy Club Thursday night. A monthly comedy show featuring performances from Los Angeles’ most notable comedians, Belt and Ray would begin producing Young OGs inside in the HAHA, back in 2019.

Livestreamed on YouTube, the sold-out event would be attended by family, friends, and fellow comedians who shared the stage with Ray throughout his career. Highlighted by a heart-warming message from Teddy’s mother, the show would also feature kind words and performances from DoBoy, Slink Johnson, Kamira White, Brent Taylor, Precious Hall, and Aida Rodriguez.

Teddy Ray, whose viral social media presence marked him as a comedy star to watch, died Friday Morning August 12th at the age of 32 in Rancho Mirage, CA. A true Los Angeles native, in just 7 short years, Teddy became one of LA’s hottest stand-up comedians and was acknowledged by many as a Comedy Legend in the making!

His first two years as a comedian, Teddy Ray crushed enough stages to score his first booked TV gig on BET’s Comic View. He continued to make a name for himself through All Def Digital internet platform, where he is not only a fan favorite, but his presence in content surely provided a helping hand in the 4.5 million YouTube subscribers the channel currently sustains. Teddy has continued his crusade to becoming a comedy powerhouse by joining season 8 cast of MTV’s Wild N’ Out and showcasing his flavor on HBO’s All Def Comedy television series.

All within less than three years, Teddy swiftly gained a cult-like fan base on the internet and continued to make waves in the industry. Often you would find that he casually featured with legendary touring comedic acts such as Russell Peters, David Spade, or Katt Williams; and publicly admitted as a comic favorite of celebrity superstars such as Jamie Foxx and T-Pain. Teddy appeared on Comedy Central Colossal Clusterfest and most recently on Comedy Central Stand-Ups along with KevOnStage Studios Keep Your Distance comedy show.

In addition to standup, Ray was a writer and actor on the comedy series How to Be Broke, appearing in six episodes in 2017-2918. He also appeared in a 2021 episode of the improv comedy courtroom show Cancel Court, and the HBO Max series Pause with Sam Jay.

Fans poured out tributes to Ray on social media, led by Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson, who left a message on Ray’s final Instagram post. “Heartbroken. Gonna miss you teddy.”

Stand-up comic and Emmy winner Katt Williams called Ray “brilliant,” and Issa Rae shared an image of a white heart emoji placed over a snap of Ray smiling to her Instagram Stories.
