Last night, Chris Redd was scheduled to perform at The Comedy Cellar in New York. According to TMZ, he got to the club around 9:40, and was attacked on the way in right after getting out of his car.
As he was walking in, a man in a security guard uniform ran up to Redd and slugged him in the face. This bloodied his nose, and even left trails of blood outside the club. Cops regularly patrol the area and responded to the scene not long after, but the attacker had already fled from the scene. The video obtained by TMZ shows the scene right after the attack with police on the scene and Redd being attended to by the general manager of the club. Redd is not visible in the video.
Redd was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was reportedly treated and released.
While the motive of the attacker is unknown at this time. It’s the latest in a growing list of incidents of comedians being attacked. While it’s happened in the past, the last couple of weeks have seen some high profile reports of these incidents.
