ENTRE NOS: THE WINNERS 3 welcomes the winners of the 3rd edition of the Latino Stand-Up! Comedy Competition Ralph Barbosa and Gwen La Roka, directed by Entre Nos alumna Aida Rodriguez.
Disarmingly shy and low-key hilarious, Barbosa shares the good news about his apartment lease and analyzes the lyrics of great hip-hop classics. La Roka confesses her deepest fears during the height of the pandemic and teases her physical comedy chops while discussing inter-generational differences.
Entre Nos returns with two comedy specials IAN LARA: ROMANTIC COMEDY and ENTRE NOS: THE WINNERS 3 debuting Friday, November 11th exclusively on HBO Max.
Rodriguez has appeared in front of the camera in both scripted and unscripted projects. In addition to her own specials, she is known for appearing in the eighth season of the NBC competition series “Last Comic Standing” and for her appearances on the news program “The Young Turks.” As an actress, she has been in shows like “Illegal,” “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore,” “Latino 101,” and “Pause With Sam Jay.”
Rodriguez’s comedy takes on issues of the day as well as stories from her personal life. In “Fighting Words,” she explored both her Puerto Rican and Dominican heritage through an on-camera look at her travels to both Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic for a celebration of the cultures as well as a reunion with her estranged father.
Ralph Barbosa is the shyest attention hog you’ll come across. Barbosa is a young comedic talent born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Ralph Barbosa has a comedy style that appeals to all so you don’t want to miss him. His unexpected perspective has helped him win 2019 Funniest Comic in Texas competition. He also was the winner of the New York Latino Film Festival Stand Up Comedy Competition, and recently made his HBO debut on the HA Festival Comedy Special. Barbosa has also worked with comedians such as Dave Attell, JR De Guzman, Mark Normand, Adam Ferrara, Dusty Slay, Jesus Trejo, & Anjelah Johnson.
Gwen La Roka is without a doubt a rising star of stand-up. Her honest comedic approach, meshed with her physical humor, enables her to bring laughter to crowds of all backgrounds, reminding us that we are all one in the same when it comes to everyday life.
Gwen has worked with some of today’s funniest comedians like Gina Yashere, Felipe Esparza, Aida Rodriguez, Finesse Mitchell and the Legendary Paul Rodriguez. Gwen has been featured at comedy clubs throughout the country including The Improv, The Laugh Factory and Zanies in Chicago.
Her corporate work includes American Family Insurance, Commonwealth Edison and the National Museum of Mexican Art. Fresh off her recent win of HBO Max’s “Entre Nos” Latino comedy competition, she is now the first Latina from Chicago to be featured on an upcoming HBO Comedy Special. Gwen La Roka is most definitely an act to watch.
