How did you discover your passion for comedy:
It started when I was 14 I started drama class the first day of school and dove into it. Shortly after I signed up for video production and learned how to produce and edit movies, plays, PSA, pilots for tv shows, and even commercials. In my first two years of college I took improv and theater. I took a hiatus for about 10 years when I decided to jump into comedy again. Living life really gave me a lot of material!

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
I was so nervous I had a mini panic attack before going up. After finally building up the courage to go up I did pretty well. Afterwards the other comedians approached me with a lot of praise and told me to keep working on it. I kind of killed it for my first time.

How would you describe your comedic style:
Raw and authentic. I talk a lot about my life growing up Latina in Compton, being a single mom, and a hairstylist. I feel like my comedy is relatable to so many different people. It reaches many diverse crowds which I love to represent. I’m a Mexican American and proud.

Describe your process for comedic writing:
I take it old school and have a notebook with me at all times. I love to people-watch and admire my environment. Sometimes watching people live their everyday lives sparks a memory that I had forgotten about it. And then I dive deeper into whatever topic it may be.

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
LA is the epicenter of Comedy. I’ve been lucky enough to connect with an amazing group of comedians that are super supportive and genuine. Starting in Hollywood out the gate is a blessing. To be driving distance from the World-Famous Comedy Store and the Laugh Factory both Long Beach and Hollywood is something I will never take for granted. I’m very grateful.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
Happiness. Success to me in any aspect is happiness. I know comedians that make over 100k a year from doing comedy and they aren’t technically “famous” and they are some of the happiest people I know. I mean fame and fortune would be nice tho (Laughs).

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
I’ve been the luckiest to connect with some of the humblest grateful very funny comedians in this industry. In my honest opinion, I hit the Jackpot. My comedic crew which consists of Gabrielle Vargas (@gabbymakesjokes) Carissa Gomez (@doc_holywood_) have been the biggest blessings a girl can ask for. They have helped tremendously in the industry. They have given me opportunities to be on stages that I wouldn’t have otherwise been on. We stick together and have writers’ nights to help each other grow.

One comic I look up to a lot is Richard Villa (@richardcomedy) I opened for him on my very first comedy show. I couldn’t help but connect with him since we grew up in the same city. That night changed my life and pushed my ambition tenfold.

What’s been your most memorable moment in comedy:
Hands down, best moment ever has been when I was able to grace the stage at Laugh Factory Long Beach in front the legendary Paul Rodriguez. He shook my hand and congratulated me on my set. He gave me a lot of compliments. It was a surreal moment. That night opened a lot of doors for me, forever grateful.

What have you learned most from your failures in comedy:
There is no failures in comedy. If I ever feel like I failed, I just think of it as more material. I’m a hustler if I ever feel like whatever I’m doing isn’t working I just try it another way and work on it.

How do people react toward you when they realize that you can make people laugh:
Honestly, I do feel like people are a little thrown off because I’m “just a girl from Compton” and we don’t really hear of people going for their dreams. We are taught to work and struggle. Hustling doesn’t really involve Hollywood (Laughs).

Describe building a career in stand-up comedy:
I started small, an open mic in North Hollywood (@bigchillinla) I became addicted and have been extremely consistent. A lot of open mics, small bars shows, and then the clubs. I feel like my success has come pretty quickly from the moment I started, but I have worked on it a lot.

If you could change one thing in the world of comedy, what would it be:
MORE LATINA REPRESENTATION!!! Its what I’m here for.

Best advice you’ve ever received from a comedian:
Write everything down! They also told me to take my time to allow the audience to laugh. (rookie stuff)

If you were releasing a comedy special this week, what would it be called:
“The Stoner Mama”

Funniest encounter you’ve ever had with a celebrity:
Chillin with Paul Rodriguez has been my favorite so far.

A Daisy Roxx Fun Fact:
I learned how to twerk when it was called poppin it.

Where would you like your laughs to take you:
I want to sell out stadiums and bring laughter to people’s lives. Bring a light into this dark world.

What would you tell a potential comedian if they ask you how they can own the laughs:
Be true to yourself!! Write from your own experiences and roast yourself. Comedy Gold!

What are your thoughts on the future of comedy:
Hoping for these opportunities to keep coming.

If you could write one episode for one classic TV sitcom which show would it be and give a brief detailed sentence on the episode:
Buffy The Vampire Slayer. She was a vampire all along.

If you could choose 1 comedy club and 3 comedians to perform with on your perfect comedy show, how would it go:
The Comedy Store w/ Jo Koy, Ali Wong, & Jim Carrey

What’s next for you:
A lot of stage time. And hopefully, a TV show fingers crossed.

Why should a person always laugh at life:
Because if you think about it and you’re able to laugh at all the bad stuff that’s happened to you in life, you’ve answered the age-old question “Why did this happen to me?” because you were meant to laugh at it. The universe is a comedian too. She’s funny that way.
