WILD, FUNNY, & LATINA ALL NIGHT LONG!
A night honoring the hard-working Latin mothers of Stanislaus County, one of California’s premier comedy entertainment companies invades Modesto, CA with show-stealing performances from some of the funniest Latinas in stand-up comedy as part of We Own The Laughs: Modesto on Friday May 12th 8pm inside The State Theatre.
Drink, laugh, and enjoy a night with your favorite girlfriends featuring some of the best comedians around Northern California hosted by none other than the very hilarious Modesto native Glory Magaña.
Along with Magaña, the event will be highlighted by show-stealing performances from Serena Gamboa, Gabby Vargas, Nacya Marreiro, Anna Valenzuela, and Melanie Baldonado.
It’s the perfect start to an amazing Mother’s Day weekend.
A crowd-favorite native of the Modesto area, Glory Magaña has been a comedic standout throughout the community ever since her journey began in 2012. The youngest of 15 children growing up there was never a dull moment for Glory or a night where she didn’t have the opportunity of performing in front of a large audience. Unforgettable due largely to her animated stage presence, she would instantly become a featured act around the Northern California comedy scene including high-profile comedy clubs such as Cobbs Comedy Club, Tommy Ts, and Punch Line Sacramento. Glory’s strong reputation continues to build as she has headlined comedy shows across the U.S. and Mexico.
Opening the show on the evening of May 12th will be another local comedy star, Serena Gamboa. Known to many as “The Spicy Latina,” Gamboa is one of the most enjoyable attractions in the world of California comedy. Serena has opened for many comedic legends, including Ellis Rodriguez, Mario Hodge, and Nick Larson. A two-time Modesto Area Music Awards winner, Gamboa has had unforgettable performances up and down the west coast, and it’s only a matter of time before she’s performing on some of the biggest stages in the world.
Gabrielle Vargas is a comedian, artist, actress, writer, and producer. Putting the true meaning to renaissance women Gabby is a woman of many talents. A Puerto Rican/Dominican raised in New York City & Florida, Vargas recently made the move to the west coast and has been performing at numerous comedy clubs including The Ice House, Comedy Chateau, and The Comedy Store.
Born and raised in Portimao, Portugal, from an early age Nacya Marreiro developed a passion for entertainment by being the life of the party at family gatherings and through stage performances during school. While traveling the world as a flight attendant, Nacya started performing stand-up comedy in diverse cities such as Abu Dhabi, New York City, Washington D.C, Dallas , Norway and Germany. Her unique style and flair on stage has grown from open mics into opening up for Whitney Cummings, April Macie, Adam Ray, Dane Cook and participating at Skankfest NYC and Skankfest Houston. Spending time living between Austin, New York City, and Los Angeles, Marreiro’s successful produced comedy shows and performances have led to making amazing guest appearances alongside top comedians Joe Rogan, Big Jay, Aaron Berg and Chris Redd.
A lover of people, laughter, and good bourbon, Melanie Baldonado has a contagious energy that makes her first on the party invite list. Residing once again in Southern California and a regular featured act at The Stand Up Comedy Club and Levity Live, Baldonado has taken to the stage to live out her dream of making people laugh. She has a strong critical eye, and likes to find humor in relationships, human behavior, and governmental nonsense. Melanie does her best to be a clean comic, but hey, real life is a little dirty.
Closing out the show that evening is national headliner Anna Valenzuela.
A stand-up comedian with a radiant smile that’s wonderfully at odds with her dark material, Valenzuela has one of the best stage performances that you will ever see. A trained black-belt, she’s fought her way to the top of LA’s competitive stand-up scene with sheer force of will and killer jokes. Valenzuela can easily roast the audience, other comics, and herself with equal aplomb. Anna’s skills earned her a spot on Comedy Central’s Roast Battle, where she emotionally destroyed her opponents while maintaining her balance in kitten heels. Her warm nature draws audiences in, and her expertly-crafted bits keep them coming back for more. She’s in-demand in LA and elsewhere, having been making regular appearances at the Comedy Store, and the Hollywood Improv. Anna hosts two podcasts: 12 Questions, an in-depth look at sobriety, and Bruja-ja, where three Latinas dish on all things Latinx.
Doors open at 7pm with tickets starting at $35 and are available at TheState.Org
