He has appeared in several screen roles working with the likes of Ben Stiller, Ken Marino and Ron Hubel and can be seen next on the uber-popular LMAOF on Only Fans TV! As part of We Own The Laughs.com’s Comedian of the Day, have a few laughs and get to know comedian Mateen Stewart. How did you discover your passion for comedy:
I was creatively depressed, so I took a stand-up comedy class and loved it.

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
I was nervous but after it was like I felt something g I’d never felt before.

How would you describe your comedic style:
Ted Talk Cupcake, dick joke sprinkles.

Describe your process for comedic writing:
Life happens and I report on it.

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
Very top-heavy. Lots of celebrities.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
Success is relative, but I’ve noticed that it’s just a series of getting things you want and wanting more.

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
Martin Morrow, Papp Johnson, and Brittany Schmitt.

What’s been your most memorable moment in comedy:
Performing for the first time in front of my family.

What have you learned most from your failures in comedy:
That doors that slam in your face get bigger.

If you could change one thing in the world of comedy, what would it be:
More due process.

Best advice you’ve ever received from a comedian:
Have fun or quit

If you were releasing a comedy special this week, what would it be called:
“Bigger Doors”

Funniest encounter you’ve ever had with a celebrity:
A friend of mine loves John Hamm and he was at the festival we were performing at. During the afterparty, she was wondering if he would show. I said “ He gonna show”, but she didn’t have faith. 3
mins later, he walks in. She almost shit her pants. I walked over to him and said “Hey John, I just made you come.” Not even thinking about how that sounded, but he was so quick to respond saying “Well that was fast”.

Weirdest place you’ve ever performed any form of comedy:
A Halfway House

I used to be an avid tap dancer.

Where would you like your laughs to take you:
I wanna be able to buy anything I want twice.

What would you tell a potential comedian if they ask you how they can own the laughs:
Be you, don’t try to be anyone else but you. You can’t teach authenticity.

What are your thoughts on the future of comedy:
I think the “BOOM” has happened and now it’s starting up again with digital media. I’m not really a fan of all the crowd work videos taking over.

If you could write ONE episode for ONE classic TV sitcom, which show would it be and give a brief detailed sentence on the episode:
I really love the show Martin. It was the perfect sitcom to me. The acting, the writing still holds up today.

If you could choose ONE comedy club and THREE comedians to perform with on your perfect comedy show, how would it go:
Hollywood Improv. I’d be hosting for Patrice O’Neal and Mike Birbiglia.

What’s next for you:
I’m really excited about this LMAOF project on OFTV; also, be on the lookout for my new podcast coming out soon.

Why should a person always laugh at life:
Life is too short not to laugh, and it’s also the longest thing we will ever do so you might well laugh and enjoy the time you have on this earth.
