ABC has canceled the comedy series Home Economics after three seasons, Variety has learned.
Home Economics aired its third season finale in January of this year, which will now serve as its series finale. The series was one of just two ABC shows that remained on the bubble, with the other being the spinoff “The Rookie: Feds.”
“Home Economics” was a solid performer for ABC but never quite a breakout. ABC picked up the show for a 13-episode third season but then declined to expand the order beyond that.
Fans of the show were given a glimmer of hope over the summer when ABC reportedly extended the casts’ options, meaning they were still considering a fourth season, but it ultimately did not come to pass.
Per the official series description, “Home Economics” followed the “relationship among three adult siblings: one in the 1%, one middle-class and one barely holding on.”
The series starred Topher Grace as Tom, Caitlin McGee as Sarah, Jimmy Tatro as Connor, Karla Souza as Marina and Sasheer Zamata as Denise. Shiloh Bearman also appeared as Gretchen along with Jordyn Curet as Shamiah, Chloe Jo Rountree as Camila, JeCobi Swain as Kelvin, and Lidia Porto as Lupe.
The series was created by writers Michael Colton and John Aboud. They also serve as executive producers alongside Grace, Jason Wang, Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, Tucker Cawley, Julieanne Smolinski and Victor Nelli. Lionsgate and ABC Signature co-produce.
