The Sweet East trailer for the upcoming coming-of-age road trip comedy has been released.
It stars Talia Ryder, as her character embarks on an absurd trip through the picturesque cities and woods of the Eastern seaboard. The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
It is currently slated to arrive in theaters on December 1st.
“The mental, social and political disarray of the United States, filmed like a game of hopscotch or a variation on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” reads the synopsis (via IFC Center).
High school student Lillian runs away while on a school trip and traverses the spectrum of contemporary radicalism and madness, from white supremacists to Islamic radicals, from neo-punks to woke avant-gardists. At every leg of her journey, she comes into contact with hermetic worlds, whose citizens rant and rave to each other, blissfully ignorant of their neighbors.
A story at the crossroads of a traditional fairytale, a picaresque narrative, and 1970s New Hollywood.”
The Sweet East is directed by Sean Price Williams from a screenplay written by Nick Pinkerton. Joining Ryder are Ayo Edebiri (Bottoms, The Bear), Jacob Elordi (Priscilla), Simon Rex (Scary Movie), Rish Shah (Ms. Marvel), Jeremy O. Harris (Emily in Paris), Andy Milonakis (Adventure Time), and more.
It is produced by Daniel April, Craig Butta, Matthew Cochran, Alex Coco, Galen Core, and Alex Ross Perry.
Executive producers are Jimmy Kaltreider and David Kaplan.
