Comedians working together is a beautiful thing.

Comedian Mike Birbiglia welcomes a different comedian or creator each week and together they work out original, untested material. And, occasionally, uncomfortable topics. Join them as they work it out.

Mike Birbiglia: A comedian, storyteller, director and actor who has performed in front of audiences worldwide, from the Sydney Opera House to Broadway. His shows, “My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend” and “Thank God for Jokes,” were both filmed for Netflix. His most recent show, “The New One,” ran for 99 shows at the Cort Theatre.

In addition to performing live, Mike is an author and filmmaker who wrote, directed and starred in the films Sleepwalk with Me and Don’t Think Twice. Mike’s book “Sleepwalk with Me and Other Painfully True Stories” was a New York Times bestseller and a finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor. As an actor, Mike has appeared on “Inside Amy Schumer,” HBO’s “Girls” and “Broad City,” as well as in the films Trainwreck, The Fault in Our Stars and Popstar. He plays the role of Danny Pearson on “Orange Is the New Black” and Oscar Langstraat on Showtime’s “Billions.” He is a contributor to “This American Life” on public radio. In 2017, Mike was honored with the Kurt Vonnegut Award for humor.

This week’s episode, Rosebud Baker’s first appearance on Working It Out was in 2021. Since then she’s become a writer on SNL, written for That Damn Michael Che, and become a parent. Now Rosebud returns to talk with Mike about how being a parent affects comedy, and they dispel certain attitudes about filming a comedy special while pregnant. Plus, the art of pitching ideas for different types of sketch shows, and why Rosebud’s daughter has to call her grandfather “Mr. Baker.”

Rosebud Baker:  Rosebud Baker is a New York-based comedian, actress, and writer. In 2018, she was selected as New Face of Comedy at Montreal’s prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival 2018. Her intensely personal, dry, remorselessly dark brand of humor stood out to viewers in the Amazon Video docu-series, “Inside Jokes” which documented her journey to becoming a New Face of Comedy.

The Village Voice named Rosebud as The Very Best of Just For Laughs New Faces Showcase, stating ”Baker’s no-nonsense, wickedly dirty routine cut through the evening like barbed wire.”

Rosebud has written for “That Damn Michael Che” on HBO max, and the “Comedy Central Roast of Alec Baldwin.” She’s appeared on “Pause with Sam Jay,” Comedy Central Stand-up, Bill Burr’s “The Ringers,” as well as multiple appearances on “This Week At The Comedy Cellar.” She’s toured with some of the biggest names in comedy, including Michael Che and Amy Schumer, and performed at comedy festivals like Comedy Central’s Clusterfest, JFL 42, Vodaphone Comedy Festival, and SxSW.
