A father and daughter are suing Pauly Shore for assault and battery for an alleged incident that took place at the Encino Man star’s club, The Comedy Store.

Sean Kehoe and his daughter Kirra Lyn Potts alleged that security staff “violently grabbed and attacked” Kehoe and dragged him at the establishment, which is owned and operated by Shore’s family, in November 2022, per legal documents obtained by PEOPLE

They also claim that Shore knew of the employees’ plan to assault Kehoe and that he “agreed with and encouraged” those involved in the incident.

In the suit, Kehoe claims that the altercation caused him to suffer from “severe injuries.” The pair are seeking compensation in damages for their past and future medical bills, loss of earnings, and the “mental and emotional distress” they have allegedly dealt with after the incident.

Shore recently exercised his acting skills as Richard Simmons in the short film The Court Jester. The project — which premiered in Park City, Utah, earlier this month — was written and directed by Jake Lewis and follows an ostracized segment producer who has a life-changing encounter backstage with Shore’s Simmons.

“I’m really excited about sharing Richard Simmons’ life with the world. We all need this biopic now more than ever,” Shore said in a statement following the film’s release. “Simmons represented mental health, getting people in shape, and being his authentic silly self! Whenever he was on TV you could never take your eyes off of him, and he brought such a joy to his appearances that represented nothing but a good time.”

Shore is set to step back into Simmons’ workout gear in a forthcoming feature film developed by Warner Bros. subsidiary the Wolper Organization. Following the announcement, the fitness guru disavowed the project on social media.

“Hi everybody! You may have heard they may be doing a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I have never given my permission for this movie. So don’t believe everything you read,” he wrote. “I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful. Thank you for all your love and support.”
