Donald Glover has considered going back into stand-up comedy, even though he recently passed up the opportunity to jump on stage in Los Angeles.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month in support of his new show with Maya Erskine, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the actor and musician shared that he still writes down jokes from time to time.

“I still write jokes down and I think about it,” he said. “I asked Bill Burr where to go, and I had a list, and I was just like, ‘Is it something that I feel like I need to do right now?’ Maybe it’s just a nice thing that’s there that you can try to do again if you want.”

The artist also known as Childish Gambino also revealed that he considered a return to comedy because of Chris Rock.

He said: “Oh yeah. Thought about it. Chris Rock had said, like, ‘When are you going to do it again? No one gets really good at it until their 40s, except for Eddie [Murphy].”

Glover shared that he goes to the Comedy Cellar in New York, but hasn’t made a return to the stage.

Elsewhere in the interview, he offered an update of sorts on new Childish Gambino music. “I want to, but I sort of feel the same about music as I do about stand-up right now,” he said.

The Atlanta showrunner made headlines earlier this month when he said he was “insulted” by Atlanta being compared to Lil Dicky’s hit show Dave.

While doing a “lie detector test” interview for Vanity Fair with his Erskine, the rapper and actor was asked if he thought he was more talented than Lil Dicky.

Glover answered: “Yeah,” before holding up a picture of the rapper and adding: “This is gonna start beef but I actually like him, I think he’s a really nice guy but I’m just conceited.”

Erskine then asked him if he was insulted that TV critics compared Atlanta to Dave.

He answered: “Er… yeah. I don’t remember any critics, I think it was just people. I definitely was insulted. Not because I think that Dave is bad because I actually think Dave is a good show, I just don’t think they have a lot in common.”
