Survival of the Thickest has been renewed for a second season by Netflix.
The comedy stars Michelle Buteau and is based on her book of essays Survival of the Thickest. Buteau announced the pickup on NBC’s Today this morning.
Buteau also announced she will be debuting her second comedy special with Netflix, following her previous special, Michelle Buteau: Welcome to Buteaupia.
Survival of the Thickest centers on Mavis Beaumont, played by Buteau. Black, plus-size and newly single, Mavis unexpectedly finds herself having to rebuild her life after putting all her eggs in one man’s basket, but she’s determined to not only survive but thrive with the support of her chosen family, a positive attitude, and a cute v-neck with some lip gloss.
The comedian created the series with Danielle Sanchez-Witzel. It comes from A24. The first season debuted on Netflix on July 13, 2023.
Executive Producers are Linda Mendoza, Ravi Nandan and Alli Reich for A24, and Anne Hong for Mosaic. Besides Buteau, the comedy also stars Tone Bell.
