How did you discover your passion for comedy:
My big brother would always watch things like The Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead, Family Guy, King of The Hill etc plus we’d watch Comedy Central presents any time that we could. That’s what most likely planted a goofy seed in me.

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
It was at the Houston Improv I did a 5 min story which I never told again I also wore shorts the host told me my knees looked weird and I’ve been wearing pantaloons ever since.

How would you describe your comedic style:
I’m like a well groomed fluffy chihuahua who won’t get adopted from the shelter for consistent bad behavior but will protect his potential family with his life. Now picture that but with a microphone in his paws.

Describe your process for comedic writing:
Honestly, I just chug a yerba Mate (guayaki) get the zoomies in the back yard and see what comes to mind or I’ll sit in the shower for a long time and talk about what thoughts occurred later on that night at an open mic or a show.

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
I feel extremely blessed to have started doing comedy in Houston we have a bunch of strong comics and quality stage time. Plus we have such a diverse city every night you could potentially be in front of a completely different crowd which pays off when you end up performing in different cities.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
I guess being busy is good it means you’re in demand the more work you get the more skills you acquire which means more potential opportunities.

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
Like I said Houston has a strong scene I’m lucky enough to share the stage with some heavy hitters such as Will Loden, Jeff Joe, Jessi Saldaña, Nathaniel Amador, JCann. Seeing them perform inspires me and motivates me to take the craft serious and to make improvements daily I’m also fortunate enough to have conversations with them and soak up all the game they’ve acquired through their many years of being professional comedians. Those conversations and nuggets of advice are things I’ll never take for granted. They’ve helped me out more than they think I owe them a lot.

What’s been your most memorable moment in comedy:
I’d have to say performing with Chingo Bling for a whole weekend in San Antonio at the LOL it was a surreal feeling getting to perform along side a childhood hero especially being in front of sold out crowds for a whole weekend the love we received and the knowledge I gained is something I’ll hold onto forever. That weekend may have been the first time I signed an autograph or was even asked to take pictures with people who attended the show I was mind blown that people would even enjoy the silly things I said to a point where I was invited to their backyard BBQs I love San Antonio.

What have you learned most from your failures in comedy:
Failure is absolutely necessary with pursuing anything you’re gonna make a fool out of yourself from time to time and you have to be okay with that. I never let those moments define me I’ll cry it about it that night in my VW Jetta while listening to house music but you better believe I’ll be back the next night trying my best.

How do people react toward you when they realize that you can make people laugh:
People always seem to be impressed or surprised that I picked up comedy I’ve been a bit of a recluse unless you knew me, but if its a stranger that I just met I always get the “oh, tell us a joke funny guy” when that happens I just walk away or bite an ankle just depends whichever way the wind blows.

Describe building a career in stand-up comedy:
I guess there’s no set way I’ve seen a lot of people go about it different ways I’ve always heard “ be undeniably funny” then people take notice. I honestly don’t have an answer I’d say just don’t be a weirdo and treat comedy like you would a significant other that you love give it kisses, flowers, and take it out on dates. Just appreciate the opportunities you’re given and make the most of it.

If you could change one thing in the world of comedy, what would it be:
I think in the comedy world it’s easy to get caught up in a cycle of comparison to others but if we got rid of that there’d be so much growth not only for individual comics but the the scene as a whole who wouldn’t want to see their peers and city shine? There’s too much unhealthy competition in my opinion.

Best advice you’ve ever received from a comedian:
“Pressure is a Privilege” and “Attitude, Energy, Confidence”

If you were releasing a comedy special this week, what would it be called:
“Awwww, That’s A Good Boy”

Funniest encounter you’ve ever had with a celebrity:
I met Devin The Dude at a Walmart in my neighborhood saw him in the Hanes section cool guy I told him one of his songs got me through a break up then I kept it moving and continued underwear shopping.

Weirdest place you’ve ever performed any form of comedy:
A company crawfish boil the mic was cutting out, kids were running around, and a bounce house was behind me that kept deflating strange place to make weewee jokes but hey I got payed.

A Danny Guerrero Fun Fact:
I used to want to be a photographer when I was 20 I would walk around the city all day and take pictures of everyone and everything I’d see. Sometimes people would let me interview them but I almost got beat up a few times by people smoking spices so I stopped doing that.

Where would you like your laughs to take you:
Maybe this is a basic answer but I haven’t really seen the world other than Mexico and Texas I’d love to travel to see and touch as many things as I can all while hitting stages at night. Eventually I’d love to get to a point where I can return all the favors my parents and my big brother have done for me as well.

What would you tell a potential comedian if they ask you how they can own the laughs:
Just be a sponge soak up everything you can from comics you think are funny/successful. Pay attention and keep showing up.

What are your thoughts on the future of comedy:
I’d like to think there’s a natural evolution when it comes to any form of expression and I believe comedy is no different I’m excited to see what new talents are just right around the corner.

If you could write an episode for ONE classic TV sitcom, which show would it be:
Drake and Josh go to prison because of Megan.

If you could choose ONE comedy club and THREE comedians to perform with on your perfect comedy show, how would it go:
I’d have to say the Houston Improv with Ralphie May, Charlie Murphy, and Katt Williams. I remember being a kid and laughing like I never have before watching them for the first time I’d love to experience that feeling live.

What’s next for you:
All I’m focused on right now is getting better at the craft I love comedy so much I’m going to keep trying my best and I firmly believe the rest will follow.

Why should a person always laugh at life:
Humor has helped me get through tough situations such as heartache and a lack of self love. There’s always something to laugh at we’re all strange in our own way why not highlight it and giggle at it a little bit. It’s been healing for me in many ways if it’s done that for me I’m sure it can do that for others as well. I’m so thankful for laughter it’s brought me closer to others and I’m grateful that it’s something I get to share with people on a nightly basis.
