Netflix and Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning writer, director, comedian and actor Ramy Youssef are teaming up.
Youssef has signed a first-look deal with the streamer in which he will develop and create serialized projects through his production company Cairo Cowboy.
Netflix’s first collaboration with Youssef was as exec producer of the critically acclaimed series Mo that he co-created with Mo Amer.
The series has received numerous awards, including a Peabody, Gotham Award, TV Academy Honors, and an AFI Awards Honoree.
Mo is in post-production on its second season right now, which will bring the story to a close.
Netflix’s next collaboration with Youssef will be as co-creator and executive producer of the scripted comedy series Golf, in which he will also play a role.
Under the Cairo Cowboy banner, the credits include Hulu and A24’s Golden Globe and Peabody Award-winning series Ramy, which is now streaming its third season; along with Netflix’s Gotham and Peabody Award winning series Mo, starring comedian Mo Amer, which will make its anticipated return in 2024.
The company also produced Youssef’s Critic’ Choice and WGA-nominated comedy special Ramy Youssef: Feelings for HBO in 2020; and more recently produced his acclaimed sophomore comedy special Ramy Youssef: More Feelings for HBO in 2024.
The company is currently in production on #1 Happy Family USA, an adult animated series which was ordered for two seasons for Amazon Studios.
The series stars Youssef, Mandy Moore, Kieran Culkin and Chris Redd.
They are also currently in pre-production on Netflix’s Golf which Youssef co-created, serves as co-showrunner and will star alongside Will Ferrell.
