A24 has unveiled the first trailer for Friendship, its oddball comedy starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd, which world premiered in the Midnight Madness section of last year’s Toronto Film Festival and will be hitting theaters in May.

Marking the feature debut of Andrew DeYoung, who directed from his own script, Friendship follows Craig Waterman (Robinson), who enjoys his life.

He likes New Balance shoes, Subway sandwiches, and Marvel movies. He lives in the suburbs with his wife, Tami (Kate Mara), and son, Steven (Jack Dylan Grazer). He’s happy to work at Universal Digital, a company that helps brands make their products more habit-forming. Craig sees no reason to change anything or make new friends… until weatherman Austin (Rudd) moves into the neighborhood. Mysterious yet friendly, macho but vulnerable, Austin transforms everything for Craig, but Craig’s obsessive and childlike nature threatens to ruin the friendship, and possibly everything else in his life.

Hailing from Fifth Season and BoulderLight Pictures, the film also stars Josh Segarra and Billy Bryk, among others. In addition to financing the project, Fifth Season produced alongside BoulderLight’s J. D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, with DeYoung and Tracy Rosenblum are exec producing. A24 picked up U.S. rights following the film’s premiere to critical acclaim at TIFF.

Currently in theaters with Paolo Sorrentino’ s coming-of-age drama Parthenope, A24’s slate for the year also currently includes Isaiah Saxon’s Sundance-premiering fantasy adventure The Legend of Ochi (February 28), Rungano Nyoni’s darkly comedic drama On Becoming a Guinea Fowl (March 7), the cult thriller Opus (March 14) starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich, Alex Scharfman’s horror comedy Death of a Unicorn (March 28) starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, and Josh Safdie’s competitive ping pong pic Marty Supreme (December 25) starring Timothée Chalamet.
