Lesser Known Characters is a weekly podcast hosted by Shapel Lacey and Joel Jimenez as they go on a journey with each guest, learning about their lives through their musical choices. They ask everything from songs guests play in their car to the songs they play at the gym, songs that remind them of love, sadness, youth and more.
Shapel Lacey: Shapel Lacey is an American comedian born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. His unique life experiences (such as being adopted by a Caucasian family at age 15), punk rock mentality, and stage presence combined make for a truly original voice in the community. Diligence and the desire to grow led him from the Phoenix open mic circuit onto main stages where he regularly performed for comedians such as Bill Burr, Chris D’Elia, Hannibal Buress, Bryan Callen, Frank Caliendo, and now regularly in Los Angeles, California.
Joel Jimenez: Joel Jimenez is a stand-up comedian, musician and a native of Northeast Los Angeles. For years he was the drummer for the #1 live podcast in the world, Kill Tony. These days you can find him at the World Famous Comedy Store, in regular rotation on some of LA’s top comedy podcasts, a co-host on both the Dogs of Brown Town and Lesser Known Characters podcasts, as well as the drummer for the punk rock band Mad Peaceful.

Kat Bird: Kat Bird is an LA comic born and raised (Go Dodgers)! She regulars at the Hollywood Improv, Laugh Factory, Ice House, Westside Comedy, and Don’t Tell Comedy. Recently seen on top 100 Comedians to Watch and alumni of Groundlings. Starred in the biopic “Sally” as Sally Ride, just nominated for the Sundance Film Festival 2025.
