Amazon MGM Studios on Wednesday morning dropped the first trailer for Heads of State, its buddy action comedy reuniting The Suicide Squad‘s John Cena and Idris Elba, which is slated to debut on streaming on July 2.

Directed by Ilya Naishuller, the filmmaker behind Hardcore Henry (2015) and Bob Odenkirk starrer Nobody (2021), Heads of State is about two government leaders who must set aside their rivalry to thwart a global conspiracy and save the world — if they can work together. Elba plays UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke, with Cena as U.S. President. When the duo become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary — who proves more than a match for the two leaders’ security forces — they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other. Along their journey to save the free world, they find a key ally in Noel Bisset, a brilliant MI6 agent played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

Billed as Air Force One meets Midnight Run, the film was written by Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec and Harrison Query, from a story by Query. Its cast also includes Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, Stephen Root, Sarah Niles, Richard Coyle and Paddy Considine. The Safran Company’s Peter Safran and John Rickard produced, with Marcus Viscidi, Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Cena, and Elba serving as exec producers.

Currently, Amazon MGM is coming off the release of A Working Man, a hit Jason Statham actioner that’s grossed over $87 million worldwide, as well as the streaming release of its political action thriller G20 starring Viola Davis. Up next, the studio releases The Accountant 2 in theaters on April 25, followed by the streaming release of Another Simple Favor, starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, on May 1.
