As Jimmy and Kayla’s new assistant Randi, Robby Hoffman has been a scene-stealer on the current fourth season of Max. The HBO-Max comedy executive team has taken notice, giving the writer-comedian a chance to headline her own series.

HBO has put in development Unentitled, a comedy starring Hoffman. It will be co-written by her and Karey Dornetto (Fallout). The duo will executive produce alongside veteran HBO-based producer Carolyn Strauss who is better known for her work on sweeping drama series like Game of Thrones and The Last of Us but also recently executive produced another comedian-led HBO comedy series, Somebody Somewhere starring Bridget Everett.

In Unentitled, Hoffman plays a version of herself. It follows contrarian Robby Hoffman as she pursues her dream of making a living as a comedian, trying to bend the world to her will.

Unentitled fits into HBO’s strategy to bet on comedy writer-performers, with one such series, Danny McBride’s The Righteous Gemstones, coming to an end, and three new ones coming in the next year or so, Tim Robinson’s The Chair Company and untitled half-hours created by and starring Rachel Sennott and Sharon Horgan.

American-Canadian Hoffman is also currently seen guest starring on FX’s limited series, Dying for Sex, recently filmed Netflix’s standup comedy series Verified and had a comedy special, I’m Nervous, on Crave TV in Canada.

As a writer, she has worked on The Chris Gethard Show (TruTV), Workin’ Moms (Netflix), Baroness Von Sketch Show (IFC) as well as Odd Squad (PBS), for which she shared a Daytime Emmy Award for writing. Hoffman, who also hosts the podcast Too Far, is repped by UTA, Jordan Tilzer at El Centro Management and Schreck Rose. Dornetto, whose series credits also include Portlandia, Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens and Little Demon.
