Sarah Silverman finds humor in the face of family tragedy in the new trailer for her Netflix stand-up special Sarah Silverman: Post Mortem.

“My dad and my stepmom, Janice, both died last May, nine days apart. And, ooh, that one needs work,” Silverman says to a crowd of laughter in the trailer’s cold open.

Following the recent death of both her parents, Silverman takes the stage once again. The official synopsis for “Post Mortem” reads: “She hilariously navigates the absurdities of death with her signature wit, from unexpectedly finding the ‘deal of a lifetime’ while planning their funerals to cherishing the bittersweet experience of hearing her mother’s last words.”

The show was filmed at the Beacon Theater in New York. Silverman directs and executive produces with Amy Zvi and John Skidmore (Best Kept Secret Productions) also executive producing.

“Post Mortem” comes eight years after Silverman’s last special for Netflix, 2017’s “Speck of Dust.” She’s also had specials on HBO with 2013’s “We Are Miracles” and 2023’s “Someone You Love.”

Silverman got her start in stand-up as a “Saturday Night Live” writer and cast member in the mid-1990s before starring in her own show, “The Sarah Silverman Program.”

Over the years, Silverman has appeared in “Maestro,” “Don’t Look Up,” “School of Rock,” “Battle of the Sexes,” “Masters of Sex,” “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping” and “The Muppets,” with voice roles in “Wreck-It-Ralph,” “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” “The Simpsons” and “The Bob’s Burgers Movie.”

“Sarah Silverman: Post Mortem” releases on Netflix May 20.
