Netflix has gifted fans a truly unhinged Mother’s Day treat: Tom Segura’s Peruvian mom Charo, absolutely eviscerating his new sketch comedy series, Bad Thoughts.
In a riotous promo released to Variety exclusively, the “Your Mom’s House” comedian invites his actual mother to a private screening — equipped with a reaction device to track her feedback. What follows is pure comedy gold.In the video, Segura gently instructs his mother to use a three-button device: a plus sign for approval, a thumbs down for disapproval, and a red button if something is so offensive she’d turn it off completely. By the end of the screening, she’s ready to disown him.
“No, Tommy. That’s not funny. This is so disgusting. I am beyond vomit,” she says, wincing as one sketch dives into jaw-dropping inappropriate territory. And that’s just the start.
“You can be a good comedian without being that disgusting,” she later declares. “This is an insult to humanity!”
Netflix’s “Bad Thoughts,” debuting May 13, is a six-episode explosion of twisted, surreal humor. Described as a mix of “Black Mirror” and David Cronenberg, with a dose of mushrooms, the series features everything from prosthetic genitals and deepfake horror to conjoined twin absurdities. It’s stylized, grotesque — and apparently, mother-repellent.
The promo captures her slow descent into mortification, from hopeful optimism (“So far, I like it… it’s a job”) to stunned disbelief (“Swear to me you’re not doing this”). One sketch pushes her so far she cries, “Cancel it. Erase it. I cannot tell people that this is my son. You know what? You’re an orphan.”
Segura isn’t offended, he’s delighted and in near tears from laughing so hard.
Despite her repeated pleas to shut the show down, Segura cheekily closes the clip with: “Thanks, Mom. I’m glad you love the show, because it’s coming out May 13.”
“Bad Thoughts” may not be kid-tested or mother-approved, but it will certainly making a splash — whether audiences embrace the filth or hit the red button like his mamá.
