Mike Murphy: Mike Murphy is a father, comedian, actor, writer, and US Army Veteran. Mike grew up in Garfield, a neighborhood in the inner city of Pittsburgh, in the late 90s and early 2000s. Mike enjoyed being the center of attention by making people laugh. Mike’s intelligence, coupled with the gift of gab, helped him transform himself into Comedian Mike Murphy. Mike was first introduced to comedy while owning a dump truck business when a friend suggested he sign up to do stand-up comedy at the Pittsburgh Improv. After his first time on stage, Mike knew comedy was his Happy place and his calling. Love, at first sight, some might call it. Mike’s first big break was in 2019 when he opened up for DC Young Fly in front of more than one thousand people. After that performance, he dissolved his dump truck business and moved to Los Angeles, California to fulfill his dream as a Comedian. Since moving to LA Mike has performed with Legends such as Dave Chappelle, Gary Owen, David Arnold, Earthquake, Mark Curry and Deray Davis as well as touring with Tony Rock. You can see him perform live all over Los Angeles at places like the World Famous Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, and The Hollywood Improv.
On this episode of The Mike Murphy Show, Mike and John Grimes sit down with comedian Henry Coleman for a real, hilarious, and inspiring conversation.
Henry opens up about his brutal bomb at the Apollo Theater, why his Def Jam performance got buried amid the Russell Simmons controversy, and how a remix of his stolen joke went viral while he got no credit. He shares the raw truth about being on 8 different TV shows without a breakthrough and how that grind is finally starting to pay off.
They play “This or That” with 20 different comedians, and Henry stuns us with a controversial take on Patrice O’Neal that might have comedy fans heated. This episode is funny, honest, and a must-watch for anyone chasing a dream or trying to make sense of the comedy game.
