Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson are unlikely members of a heist team in Prime Video’s upcoming action comedy film The Pickup.
Directed by Tim Story (The Blackening, Ride Along), The Pickup focuses on armored truck drivers Russell (Murphy) and Travis (Davidson).
The two lead fairly average lives, but both have some romantic developments to be excited about. Russell and his wife (Eva Longoria) are about to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, while Travis thinks he’s just found the love of his life in Zoe (Keke Palmer), with whom he spent a sultry weekend.
However, both romances are put in serious jeopardy when one of Russell and Travis’s routine cash pickups gets ambushed by none other than Zoe herself. Turns out, she’s a criminal mastermind hoping to pull off a $60 million heist — but she needs Russell and Travis’s help. She’ll kill Russell’s wife if they don’t comply, so Russell and Travis have no choice but to join up.
The trailer above promises a madcap heist comedy, complete with the occasional badassery from Murphy and Davidson. (Palmer, as a hyper-competent criminal, is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the badass department.) The trailer also focuses on the teasing banter between Murphy and Davidson. Could they, along with director Story, recreate the odd pairing chemistry of Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in Ride Along?
The Pickup also stars Ismael Cruz Córdova, Jack Kesy, Andrew Dice Clay, Marshawn Lynch, and Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i.
The Pickup premieres Aug. 6 on Prime Video.
