Too Funny features stand-up comedy mainstays, new faces, and legends from all over the world. Regarded by many as one of comedy’s best kept secrets, the show is hosted by comedic genius Comedian CP and now located at the ONLY comedy club in Downtown Los Angeles, The Upstairs LA.
Comedian CP: Christopher Powell, also known as Comedian CP, is an American actor, writer, and comedian. He appeared on Empire, Detroiters, All Def Comedy, and season two of HBO Max’s Love Life. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Powell worked in advertising before leaving in 2010 to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. His monthly comedy show at Saint Andrew’s Hall, “The CP Show”, helped him gain wider prominence, in addition to posting comedic videos online. In 2015, Powell booked his first television role in a recurring role on Empire. Powell was also selected to perform stand-up on HBO’s All Def Comedy (2016). For two years, he was a cast member and writer on the Comedy Central series Detroiters (2017-2018). He was also a writer for Black Jesus. Powell acted in a supporting role on season two of the HBO Max series Love Life in 2021.
The Upstairs LA: High above the hustle of LA’s Fashion District, The Upstairs Comedy Club is quietly redefining the downtown narrative—one joke, one set, one unforgettable night at a time. What started as a dusty storage space on the top floor of a 6,000-square-foot building is now Downtown’s most exciting new cultural outpost. It’s not just a comedy club—it’s a love letter to Los Angeles.
Founded by veteran film producer and talent manager Sam Sleiman alongside comedy industry icons Sarah Mello and Enrique Salazar, The Upstairs is the first dedicated comedy venue in DTLA. And the vibe? It’s equal parts gritty elegance and big-hearted energy—a place where laughter feels necessary, not optional.
A weekday comedy room in the heart of LA, where one of the greatest minds in comedy hosts his friends to join him and put in work on stage. You never know who you’ll catch dropping in!
Catch the vibes – hilarious, sexy and low key.
During a recent performance, comedian Henry Coleman informed the audience to lock their phones up.
