The Mike Murphy Show is a weekly podcast that sees Pittsburgh, PA comedian Mike Murphy sit down with some of the genre’s biggest stars to discuss various topics including comedic journeys, highlights, lowights, lessons, perceptions, what’s next, and so much more.
Mike Murphy: Mike Murphy is a father, comedian, actor, writer, and US Army Veteran. Mike grew up in Garfield, a neighborhood in the inner city of Pittsburgh, in the late 90s and early 2000s. Growing up in Garfield and having six siblings, his environment helped shape and mold him into the man he is today. Coming from where he came from, getting out of the ghetto presented many challenges, such that led him to enlist into the Army and serving two tours in Iraq — receiving multiple medals and badges — to escape a life he knew had no future.
Throughout grade school, Mike’s teachers, peers, and friends knew he was intelligent, but instead of applying his intelligence to school, Mike enjoyed being the center of attention by making people laugh. Mike’s intelligence coupled with the gift of gab, helped him transform himself into Comedian Mike Murphy. Mike was first introduced to comedy while owning a dump truck business when a friend suggested he sign up to do stand up comedy at the Pittsburgh Improv. After his first time on stage, Mike knew comedy was his Happy place and his calling. Love, at first sight, some might call it. Mike’s first big break was in 2019 when he opened up for DC Young Fly in front of more than one thousand people. After that performance, he dissolved his dump truck business and moved to Los Angeles, California to fulfill his dream as a Comedian. Since moving to LA Mike has performed with Legends such as Dave Chappelle, Gary Owen, David Arnold, Earthquake, Mark Curry and Deray Davis as well as touring with Tony Rock. You can see him perform live all over Los Angeles at places like the World Famous Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, and The Hollywood Improv.
On this week’s episode, Mike Murphy sits down with comedian and actor Ron G. to discuss his upbringing in South Carolina, his first time on stage at a club in Atlanta as well as his journey to becoming one of the best host Chocolate Sundaes ever had. They also discussed his first month of fatherhood.
