Since the mid-1990s, the Just For Laughs comedy festival has served as a launching pad for up-and-coming talents turned legendary figures as part of their “New Faces” comedy showcase. Some of the young comedians to grace the Montreal stage to find stardom include Jimmy Fallon, Gabriel Iglesias, Kevin Hart, Amy Schumer, Ali Wong, and Pete Davidson just to name a few. Due in large part to a global pandemic in 2020, JFL’s highlight showcase will be streamed on Youtube from Los Angeles, Montreal, and New York City. One of the rising stars performing at this year’s festival is none other than Empire State funnyman Ian Lara.
Ian Lara is one of the hottest rising comics in New York City. Last year he taped a set for “Comedy Central Stand up Featuring” which has garnered over 10 million views. He made an appearance on this season of “NBC’s Bring the Funny” and made his late-night debut on the tonight show with Jimmy Fallon. He was a regular player on ‘This week at the Comedy Cellar’ on Comedy Central and You can catch his short special streaming on HBO Max titled “LA meets NY” Keeping the momentum going he was named one of 2021 “JFL NEW faces” and the same week record his debut Comedy Central half-hour special.
