Part comedy, part social commentary, Roots of Comedy features host stand-up comedian/actor Jesus Trejo embarking on a journey across America to meet with six rising comedians who explore the mosaic of our nation through the lens of stand-up comedy.

Jesus Trejo: Jesus Trejo is one of the fastest-rising names in the stand-up comedy scene. Born and raised in Long Beach, Trejo’s first-hour stand-up special STAY AT HOME SON for Showtime, aired summer of 2020.

He can be seen recurring as the role of Mr. Trujillo on the Netflix series MR. IGLESIAS, and in roles on ALONE TOGETHER (Freeform) and TEACHERS (TV Land) and recently on GENTEFIED (Netflix).

Jesus is also the host of Tacos Con Todo (currently in pre-production for season 3), a series from Complex/First We Feast (HOT ONES) in which he navigates the LA taco scene with celebrity guests. Jesus was named a Variety Top 10 Comic to watch at JFL in 2017 and is a paid regular at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Kicking off in January 2022, EMPTY CALORIE TOUR is Jesus Trejo’s first official International comedy tour.

In this episode, in Los Angeles, Jesus Trejo embraces the hometown vibe, teaming up with multi-hyphenate comedian Sierra Katow. A fourth-generation Chinese and Japanese American, with deep L.A. roots, Sierra shows Jesus a side of the city he’s never seen before.

Sierra Katow: A Los Angeles-based stand-up comic, writer, and actor, Katow was previously seen starring in Netflix’s The G Word with Adam Conover and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. She voiced characters in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon and has also been seen on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and Last Call with Carson Daly, and Just For Laughs’ Straight Up, Stand Up.

Currently a writer and co-producer for an unannounced Comedy Central series, Katow has previously developed projects for FXX and SK Global. Additionally, she’s written for Netflix’s Exploding Kittens, Max’s Close Enough, Disney+’s Earth to Ned and Eureka, and more.
