Located in the lower level of the recently restored Norwood event space, the Comedy Bar will open on Feb. 14, adding another stage to the area’s stand-up comedy scene.

Opening weekend features two shows by Chicago native Calvin Evans at 7 p.m. Feb. 14-15, followed by three sets from Stef Dag at Fri. 21-22. Detroit’s own Mike Stanley headlines Feb. 28 and March 1, and Sam Ramsdell, Christian Johnson, Indi Remy and others are booked this spring.

“We’re thrilled to be part of the revitalization of the New Center neighborhood,” said the Comedy Bar co-owner Sahar Lane in a statement. “It was always important to us to find a venue within Detroit city proper and we took our time to find the right location. Opening in such a beautifully restored, historic venue on Woodward Avenue gives us the chance to contribute positively to the community’s rich culture and this town’s ongoing growth. Being a Chicago native, Detroit is the only other place that has ever felt like home and we’re excited to bring humor to our new home.”

The New Center spot is the first location of the Comedy Bar outside of Chicago, where there are clubs downtown and in the West Town neighborhood. The Detroit Comedy Bar seats 175 during stand-up shows. The club has attached parking and a full bar with a craft cocktail menu.

Tickets are sold as general admission seating at tables, and there is a two-drink minimum (soft drink or alcoholic) for everyone, including a 20% auto-gratuity. Must be 17 or older to attend.

The Comedy Bar is at 6531 Woodward in Detroit. Visit comedybar.com for tickets, the full schedule of upcoming events and information on how to apply to perform.
