Netflix is once again hosting a showcase of up-and-coming comedians for its annual Netflix Is a Joke Festival.
Dubbed “Introducing…,” the showcase will feature 10 stand-ups who will each perform a 5-7 minute set across two shows in one night. The event takes place on May 8 at the Avalon in Hollywood, with showtimes at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
The sets will be recorded and edited, and then uploaded to Netflix Is a Joke’s YouTube channel and social platforms.
In his Introducing… set for Netflix is a Joke, comedian Alex Song-Xia debates the pros and cons of dating men vs. dating women and recalls the time she broke a dominatrix.
Alex Song-Xia: Alex Song-Xia is a writer, actor, and comedian in Los Angeles. They have written for TV shows including RICK AND MORTY (Adult Swim), THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON (NBC), NIGHT OF TOO MANY STARS (HBO), PRAISE PETEY (Freeform), LITTLE DEMON (FX), and EXPLODING KITTENS (Netflix). As an actor, Alex can be seen in season 4 of HBO’s HIGH MAINTENANCE, the Netflix feature THE WEEK OF, directed by Robert Smigel and produced by Happy Madison Productions, and HELPSTERS on Apple TV+. Most recently, they were featured as a stand-up on NETFLIX IS A JOKE: INTRODUCING. Alex wrote and the directed the short film, REALLY GOOD DRIVER, which they starred in with Keiko Agena, and was interviewed for it on Deadline.
