CBS has given DMV a Back 7 order, bringing the freshman comedy starring Harriet Dyer and Tim Meadows to a full-season 20 episodes.

This marks another vote of confidence for DMV, which started as an off-cycle pilot that tested and screened well and earned two backup scripts ahead of a series order in April. With the original 13-episode order nearing completion and the network pleased with output so far, a back order decision was made to keep the show in continuous production.

The single-camera series comes from creator Dana Klein, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, Wendi Trilling’s TrillTV and CBS Studios.

Based on award-winning author Katherine Heiny’s short story, the series is set in the place everyone dreads going most – the Department of Motor Vehicles – where employees are making minimum wage dealing with customers who are annoyed before they even walk in the door.

Molly Kearney, Alex Tarrant, Tony Cavalero and Gigi Zumbado also star in DMV, executive produced by Klein, Matt Kuhn, Kaplan, Trilling and Robyn Meisinger. Trent O’Donnell executive produced and directed the pilot from a script written by Klein.

DMV premieres October 13 at 8:30 p.m., following the eighth and final season premiere of The Neighborhood. Both comedies are produced by Kapital Entertainment, along with midseason medical drama Watson, which is back with a full-season sophomore order. Additionally, Kapital has long-running drama The Chi at CBS sibling Showtime.
