LUSH, TROPICAL, and EXOTIC! The Epic Tiki is a weekly podcast hosted by comedian and filmmaker Luke Soin.
Join Luke as he hangs and chats with his friends and other comedians, filmmakers, and interesting peoples. Laid-back, conversational, humorous. The podcast mixes comedy, movie talk, personal stories, joke-writing, pop culture, etc. Topics vary. Could be comedy careers, personal stories, film & movies, sometimes deep dives into fandoms (e.g. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings), pop culture, life experiences.
Luke interjects with his comedic sensibilities; there’s often spontaneous or tangential humor, sharing of weird or funny anecdotes. It’s not super polished in a formal sense — more genuine and casual.
It tries to feel like you’re just hanging out with these people.
Luke Soin: Luke Soin is a stand-up comedian based in Sacramento, California. He’s also a filmmaker / videographer and runs Epic Tiki, a platform for comedic web videos, sketches, talk shows, and podcasts. His comedic style is described as silly and self-effacing. He performs regularly around the Sacramento area (Laughs Unlimited, Punch Line, etc.), and has done showcases at notable clubs in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and even Vancouver. He produces a comedy show in a backyard setting called Cornerhouse Comedy in Tahoe Park neighborhood. He has film work credited (IMDb): titles include Josh Means Business (2023), Chazz Hawkins: The First One’s on the House (2024), Plate It (2022).
This week, Soin sits down for a fantastic chat with friend and stand-up comedian Raul Gonzo as they discuss a variety of topics including comedic journeys, pop culture favorites and current events.
In this episode they talk about Luke’s new film project, The Host, and how tough it is to get a TV pilot made with or without a budget. They also talk about how tough it is to find your way in the film industry, especially when you live in Sacramento. They also talk about movies! Like the wild “gonzo” feel of Francis Ford Coppola’s film Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Skeet Ulrich being like Johnny Depp. They also talk about the Scream franchise and much, much more! They also work on one of Luke’s jokes to close it out.
