Nikki Glaser began her second consecutive stint as host of the Golden Globes by putting the entire affair in perspective:

The event was, she said mockingly, “without a doubt, the most important thing that’s happening in the world right now. So let’s get down to business.”

And with that, she took jabs at the Warner Bros. deal, the Justice Department and CBS News (the show was broadcast on CBS) before pivoting to the Globes monologue’s traditional turf: gently snarking about the A-listers in attendance.

“I cannot believe the amount of star power we have in this room tonight, it’s insane,” said Glaser, glammed up in a flowing red satiny number with a train and side slits up to here. “There’s so many A-listers. And by A listers, I do mean people who are on a list that has been heavily redacted. Yes, the Golden Globe for Best Editing goes to the Justice Department. Congratulations.”

After a bit of jokingly beseeching celebs to keep doing what they’re doing – “Paul Mescal and Jacob Elordi, keep being the same person to my mom” – Glaser landed, once again, on Martin and Short. “Keep proving to us that in this industry you are never, ever too old to still need money. I love you guys.”
