Mike Murphy: Mike Murphy is a father, comedian, actor, writer, and US Army Veteran. Mike grew up in Garfield, a neighborhood in the inner city of Pittsburgh, in the late 90s and early 2000s. Mike enjoyed being the center of attention by making people laugh. Mike’s intelligence, coupled with the gift of gab, helped him transform himself into Comedian Mike Murphy.

Mike was first introduced to comedy while owning a dump truck business when a friend suggested he sign up to do stand-up comedy at the Pittsburgh Improv. After his first time on stage, Mike knew comedy was his Happy place and his calling. Love, at first sight, some might call it. Mike’s first big break was in 2019 when he opened up for DC Young Fly in front of more than one thousand people. After that performance, he dissolved his dump truck business and moved to Los Angeles, California to fulfill his dream as a Comedian.

Since moving to LA Mike has performed with Legends such as Dave Chappelle, Gary Owen, David Arnold, Earthquake, Mark Curry and Deray Davis as well as touring with Tony Rock. You can see him perform live all over Los Angeles at places like the World Famous Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, and The Hollywood Improv.

On this episode of The Mike Murphy Show, Mike Murphy sits down with comedian and actor Alex Thomas, a true veteran of stand-up comedy and Hollywood. Alex first rose to prominence in the 1990s after appearing on Def Comedy Jam, where his sharp delivery and confident stage presence quickly made him a standout. From there, he transitioned into acting, landing memorable roles in cult-classic films like A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, and later appearing in major projects including Straight Outta Compton.

In this episode, Alex breaks down his journey through the comedy scene, what it was like coming up during the golden era of stand-up, and how he’s managed to stay relevant across decades in an industry that constantly changes. We talk comedy, acting, Hollywood realities, and the lessons learned from a long career built on consistency, hustle, and timing. This is a must-watch conversation for comedy fans and anyone curious about what it really takes to last in entertainment.
