Stand-up comedian Rola Zaarour is set to make her mark on the capital’s comedy scene with the highly anticipated launch of DC Comedy Club, debuting with its first show on April 4 along the iconic U Street corridor in Washington, D.C.
As the only woman-owned comedy club in the city, DC Comedy Club aims to bring a fresh, inclusive, and dynamic voice to the local entertainment landscape. While the club is still in search of a permanent venue, Zaarour is moving forward with a series of twice-monthly pop-up shows, creating a consistent platform for live comedy in the nation’s capital.
To support the club’s development, Zaarour launched a fundraising campaign through GoFundMe in February, which has already raised over $2,600 toward initial operating costs. The early support underscores the community’s enthusiasm for a new, diverse comedy hub in the city.
Zaarour plans to showcase a wide range of comedic voices, curating lineups that reflect the diversity and vibrancy of Washington, D.C. Her vision for DC Comedy Club is inspired in part by the hit series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, originally streamed on Amazon’s Prime Video, which tells the story of a woman breaking into stand-up comedy in the late 1950s. Drawing from that spirit, Zaarour hopes to create a space where new perspectives can thrive and audiences can find both laughter and connection.
