Comedian Paul Elia returns to the spotlight with his latest stand-up comedy special, Good Son, now streaming on YouTube.

Filmed at The Den Theatre in Chicago, the special delivers an unfiltered and hilarious look at the complexities of family, culture, and adulthood through Elia’s distinct comedic lens.

In Good Son, Elia dives into the deeply personal experience of moving back in with his Iraqi-Assyrian immigrant parents after his fiancée—now wife—was accepted into an oral surgery residency in his hometown of Detroit. What unfolds is a sharp and heartfelt exploration of generational expectations, cultural identity, and the emotional tug-of-war between honoring family and building a life of one’s own. At the core of the special is Elia’s realization that striving to be the “good son” may have come at the expense of being a good partner.

Directed by Elia’s longtime friend and collaborator Lisa Wiegand (Mayans M.C., Chicago Fire), Good Son marks a significant creative milestone. Elia credits Wiegand as an early champion who helped guide him toward a career in Hollywood, making this collaboration especially meaningful.

The special is executive produced by Azhar Usman, Mohammad Ali, and Logan Potter, with production by Dan Ringey, Amna Mirza, and Greg Van Horn—bringing together a team dedicated to amplifying authentic and diverse comedic voices.

Beyond the stage, Elia has built a reputation as a creator who thrives outside traditional industry systems.

Rather than waiting for opportunities, he has consistently carved his own path—most notably by teaming up with comedian Matt Rife to launch the LowKey Comedy Show during the pandemic, providing a vital outlet for performers when live comedy came to a halt. He also embraced emerging platforms, hosting digital comedy shows on the audio-only app Clubhouse and independently producing his own stand-up specials.

With Good Son, Paul Elia continues that trajectory—offering audiences a comedy special that is as introspective as it is laugh-out-loud funny, grounded in real-life stakes and cultural nuance.
