Comedian Matt Friend, known for his satire and impressions of Donald Trump and other political figures, will headline a comedy special from Washington, D.C. that will air on CNN on the eve of the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
The special, America Laughs with Matt Friend, will debut on Friday at 11 p.m. ET.
The network, which is producing the project, said that the hour will feature a monologue from Friend and appearances by special guests and other surprise elements.
In a statement, Friend said, “We are in an increasingly divided country and world. For my show with CNN, I aim to poke fun at everyone and allow room for all to laugh in a Johnny Carson spirit.
“For decades, from Sid Caesar and Carson to Norm Macdonald and Bill Maher, comedians have helped us reflect on public life in America. As Aristophanes said, ‘Comedy is allied to justice.’ This is going to be a truly fun, unpredictable night of impressions, satire, and surprises, and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
The special also will be available on demand for CNN streaming subscribers and for cable and satellite subscribers, including on platforms like the CNN app.
Friend performed at the WHCA dinner in 2024, when Joe Biden was president. He also hosted the NHL Awards and was official red-carpet host for ABC at the Oscars this year. He also has appeared on The Howard Stern Show, Good Morning America, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Today, among other shows.
