Comedian Josh Johnson joins Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman for an insightful conversation about his creative process, weekly stand-up output, musical influences, and finding humor in modern America.
Comedian, writer, and performer Josh Johnson sits down with Shawn Stockman for a new episode of On That Note, now streaming on YouTube.
Known for his sharp perspective, thoughtful storytelling, and remarkably prolific approach to stand-up, Johnson has established himself as one of comedy’s most distinctive contemporary voices. During his conversation with Stockman, the acclaimed comedian pulls back the curtain on the creative discipline behind his consistent weekly comedy output and how he continues turning an ever-changing world into fresh material.
Johnson discusses his approach to tackling subjects ranging from politics and race to relationships, family, money, and life in modern America. Rather than simply chasing punchlines, he explains how comedy can provide audiences with both a much-needed release and an opportunity to confront uncomfortable truths through laughter.
The conversation also explores the experiences that shaped Johnson long before his rise in comedy. Growing up in Alexandria, Louisiana, Johnson recalls discovering music through Disney soundtracks and vinyl records while reflecting on the influences and lessons that eventually helped shape his artistic voice.
Stockman and Johnson explore the intersection between music, comedy, storytelling, and creativity, revealing how seemingly different art forms share many of the same foundations: rhythm, timing, perspective, vulnerability, and connection with an audience.
Johnson has become widely recognized for his work on The Daily Show, appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and topical stand-up that regularly finds an audience online. His ability to quickly transform current events and everyday experiences into smart, layered comedy has helped make him one of the most compelling voices of his generation.
His appearance on On That Note offers audiences a deeper look beyond the finished jokes, highlighting the discipline, curiosity, and creative philosophy behind one of stand-up comedy’s most prolific performers.
