Stopping by the set to promote his new reunion special for his iconic sitcom, Martin Lawrence talks with Jimmy Kimmel about getting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, being back in the dating scene and being fixed up by friends, his daughter dating Eddie Murphy’s son, celebrating Father’s Day, doing the Sheneneh character, being friendly with Steph Curry, his message for Jayson Tatum, and black comedy audiences vs white audiences.
The selections were announced by radio host Ellen K, the chair of the Chamber’s Walk of Fame selection panel, on Friday. The selection panel, which is made up of people with existing stars on the Walk of Fame, chose the honorees out of hundreds of people nominated for a star. Their selections were ratified by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors on Wednesday.
Ceremony dates for the new selections have not be announced. Recipients of stars are required to schedule a ceremony after being selected, with the selection expiring after two years. Star ceremonies are announced by the Walk of Fame committee 10 days before they occur.
Lawrence came to fame during the 1990s, establishing a Hollywood career as a leading actor, most notably the films Bad Boys, Blue Streak, Big Momma’s House and Bad Boys II. Lawrence has acted in numerous movie roles and starred in his own television series, Martin, which ran from 1992 to 1997.
