Dallas Comedy House, the longtime Deep Ellum performance venue that closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will reopen this fall with a new look, new name, and new mission to bring comedy to the Dallas scene.

Ian and Rosie Caruth, former Dallas Comedy House performers, have taken over the space at 3036 Elm Street and renamed it Dallas Comedy Club. It’s slated to open in September after renovations, with several classrooms, two enclosed theaters indoors, and an outdoor stage. The original venue’s beer garden and full-service restaurant will also be updated.

The original Dallas Comedy House was founded in 2009 on Commerce Street, according to the Dallas Morning News. It moved to a location on Main Street in 2015, and then to the Elm Street spot in 2019 following a dispute with the Main Street landlord. For 11 years, it served as an entertainment mainstay in Deep Ellum, until the novel coronavirus hit. The venue hosted a few events throughout the summer, but struggle with reduced capacity and curfews, eventually closing for good on July 2.
