The new era of Night Court is officially taking shape, as Deadline is reporting that both Melissa Rauch and the original series’ co-star John Larroquette will be joining the upcoming series.

The new Night Court, which is a reboot of the 1984 legal comedy series, will see Larroquette reprise his role as night court prosecutor Dan Fielding. As for Rauch, she’ll play unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone, a new character created for the show. Early reports indicate that the reboot is gearing up towards a pilot order from NBC.

For Rauch, this marks the first role for the actress since her starring role in The Big Bang Theory. Rauch is also attached to the Night Court reboot as an executive producer, and reportedly only joined the show in an acting capacity after reading the script. The reboot will be written and executive produced by Dan Rubin and will see Abby Stone following in her father’s footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court. The original Night Court starred the late Harry Anderson as Judge Harold “Harry” T. Stone.

Melissa Rauch and Winston Rauch will executive produce via their production company After January. The company produces in association with WBTV, which was also the studio behind the original series. Rauch approached the studio about a potential reboot of the popular series due to her growing up a fan of the show.
