At the Tribeca Film Festival yesterday, there was a panel featuring John Legend and his producing partner Mike Jackson. During the panel, Jackson announced some big news about their production company, Get Lifted.
“We just partnered with Bernie Mac’s estate to cover Bernie Mac’s story,” Jackson said. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the news was even a surprise to Legend, as it was something Jackson said he “didn’t know about yet,” as it “just happened today.” It was later announced in the panel that the film to-be would be a biopic on Mac’s life.
This is a reunion of sorts, as Legend co-starred with Mac in Mac’s final film, Soul Man, which was released posthumously after his death in 2008. On working with Mac, Legend said “He truly just got joy from lighting people’s faces up with laughter.”
