For the past couple of months, Netflix has been firing on all cylinders with new comedy specials from Ali Wong, Aziz Ansari, Taylor Tomlinson, Ms. Pat, and The Standups. The next stand-up comedian who is scoring the special trifecta on the streamer is Mike Epps, who previously hosted two shows that debuted over the past years. Mike Epps: Indiana Mike premieres next week, and the comedian has a lot to unpack since his last show.

Known for sharing his unique takes about life in Black communities while sporting stylish suits, Epps decided to host his next special in his hometown of Indianapolis, where he got the chance to include in the audience some high-profile individuals who really can relate to his stories, such as the Mayor and the Indiana Pacers.

The trailer for Mike Epps: Indiana Mike shows the comedian finding the balance between praising and dissing Indianapolis, sharing life stories from his parents and neighbors, telling the audience how people deal with him after reaching stardom, and revealing that being the voice of a whole community has its toll, like… getting tired of acting like he can’t stand white people. Because you know, they can be nice sometimes.

Epps’ previous specials, Mike Epps: Don’t Take it Personal and Mike Epps: Only One Mike premiered on Netflix on 2015 and 2019, so the comedian probably has a lot to catch up on pandemic-wise, as the trailer also teases. The Gotham Awards winner hasn’t been away from TV, though: he recently starred on another Netflix show, The Upshaws, an Emmy-nominated comedy series featuring Wanda Sykes and Kim Fields. Epps is also known for playing L.J. in the Milla Jovovich-led Resident Evil film series.

Mike Epps: Indiana Mike is directed by Alfonso Johnson, who makes his directing debut. The special joins a huge slate of stand-up comedy shows in the streamer that features all kinds of comedians like Ali Wong, Dave Chappelle, Bo Burnham, Kevin Hart, Kapil Sharma, Aziz Ansari, and many, many others.

Netflix premieres Mike Epps: Indiana Mike globally on March 29.
