How did you discover your passion for comedy:
My parents are very funny people who love banter, storytelling, and laughter. Growing up, we watched George Lopez specials and classic comedies like His Girl Friday.

What do you remember most about your first time performing stand-up comedy:
I remember blacking out on stage and having the best fucking time.

How would you describe your comedic style:
I like to tell stories and poke fun at myself.

Describe your process for comedic writing:
I usually start a joke with a word, phrase, or observation. My jokes usually start as notes on my phone that I then expand upon and write out in my notebook. I also like to try out stories and material on my podcast – Marijuanera: A Podcast for Potheads.

Describe the comedy scene in your area:
I live in LA, so the comedy scene is very LA. I like driving out to The Chatterbox in Covina for the Thursday open mic, which is where I work out all of my material. I also love going to The Chatterbox for the Sunday show – Chatterbox Comedy Night.

How do you judge success in the world of comedy:
I think a successful comic is a comic who writes, performs, and gets laughs.

Who are some of your comedic peers that you enjoy watching perform or inspire you personally and professionally:
Jesus Trejo, Chris Estrada, Marcella Arguello, Aida Rodriguez, Vince Caldera, Stevona Delgado, Mario Rodriguez, and Rian Reyes.

What’s been your most memorable moment in comedy:
Hosting and producing my own 420 friendly comedy show – Jokes & Tokes

What have you learned most from your failures in comedy:
Just keep writing.

How do people react towards you when they realize that you can make people laugh:
They laugh!

Describe building a career in stand-up comedy:
Slow going, torturous, fun.

If you could change one thing in the world of comedy, what would it be:
The misogyny.

Best advice you’ve ever received from a comedian:
Don’t take unsolicited advice from comedians.

If you were releasing a comedy special this week, what would it be called:
“Zoe”

Dominic Angel (@kidbrotherinc)

Funniest encounter you’ve ever had with a celebrity:
One time I saw David Spade on the street and I SHOUTED his name “OMG IT’S DAVID SPADE”

Weirdest place you’ve ever performed any forms of comedy:
A  cannabis dispensary

A Mala Muñoz Fun Fact:
I like to roller skate!

Where would you like your laughs to take you:
Film, Television, and comedic acting.

What would you tell a potential comedian if they ask you how they can own the laughs:
Keep writing, keep performing, and keep going.

What are your thoughts on the future of comedy:
I think there is a lot of room for comedians to create one person shows, comedic stage plays, and comedic musical theatre.

If you could write one episode for one classic TV sitcom which show would be and give a brief detailed sentence on the episode:
The George Lopez Show- George’s mother Benny wins a mommy make-over while listening to Art Laboe’s radio show. Chaos ensues when Benny shows up to work in her new look and her wig, lashes, and acryllic nails cause havoc on the factory floor.

If you could choose 1 comedy club and 3 comedians to perform with on your perfect comedy show, how would it go:
The Comedy Store – Marcella Arguello, Nicole Byer, and Maria Bamford

Dominic Angel (@kidbrotherinc)

What’s next for you:
I’m performing on the Idiots United Show @ The Bourbon Room on December 7th, Dave & Busters on December 14th, and Chatterbox Comedy Night on January 29th.

Why should a person always laugh at life:
To keep from crying!
