Feeling a little nostalgic, one of Latinx greatest comedic acts is returning to their first claim to fame with a new comedy special.

On Feburary 14th, 2005, Youtube was introduced to America and quickly became one of the most visited websites on the planet, creating thousands of viral stars in the process.

One of those stars was an ex-Oakland Raiders cheerleader turned stand-up comedian named Anjelah Johnson.

Anjelah gained mass viral appeal when she posted a comedy sketch video impersonating a Vietnamese nail salon employee on the website in the early 00s. That video would attract over 43 million views and lead to headlining her own comedy shows and a starring role on the sketch show MADtv.

16 years later, the San Jose, California native is set to return to the second-most visited websites in the world with her latest comedy special entitled Say I Won’t

Recorded in Nashville, Tennesse, Johnson would make the announcement on her social media pages, along with an official trailer release.

Anjelah Johnson-Reyes: An actress, comedian, author, and former NFL cheerleader, Johnson-Reyes first garnered national attention as a cast member on FOX’s MADtv in the late 2000s. Her characters included a Vietnamese nail salon employee named Mỹ Linh/Tammy and a rude fast food employee turned music star named Bon Qui Qui (the latter of which has become popular outside of Johnson’s short stint on the show).

By the end of the decade, Comedy Central would release her first stand-up comedy special entitled Anjelah Johnson: That’s How We Do It.

The success from the special would immediately turn Anjelah into one of the hottest latin comedy acts in the country. Since then, Johnson-Reyes has released three more comedy specials including Homecoming ShowAnjelah Johnson: Not Fancy, and Mahalo & Goodnight.

She also appeared in the films Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Our Family Wedding, and provided her voice for the live-action adaptation of Marmaduke.

In 2022, Johnson-Reyes released her first book titled My Who Do I Think I Am?Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams, a hilarious and thoughtful memoir that explores questions of identity, belonging, and her two dreams as a kid: to be an actress and to be a chola.

Anjelah Johnson-Reyes “Say I Won’t” Comedy Special is set to premiere on Youtube on May 14th.
